Successful Careers is a non-profit 501c3 organization providing academic intervention and motivation to at-risk youth by providing awareness, exposure and access to business, STEM, entrepreneurship and skilled trade careers. Our Vision is to:
1.Change youth perspectives increasing motivation and understanding of academic impact on their career options and future earning potential.
2.Provide character building and student driven behavior modification for academic and socially impactful results.
3.Cultivates and leverages relationships between public schools, juvenile justice system, community organizations and employers to bridge talent gaps, creating talent pipelines of quality diversity candidates.
4.Facilitates parental skill development, empowerment and involvement.
Make national impact via:
1.Increasing on-time high school completion rates for served at-risk students (reducing variance by 50% within 3 years).
2.Increasing on-time completion rates of 4 year STEM and business degrees for served at-risk students (reducing variance by 50% within 3 years).
3.Achieve 90% or higher placement of served students within 3 years in either:
- Employment on track for professional career
- Entrepreneur Businesses Owner
- Skilled trade which offers strong wages & high employment with opportunity for entrepreneurship.
Ruth believes in the mandate of outreach and equipping each individual to understand their identity and utilize their given talents with purpose.
Raised in poverty and abuse in the inner cities of Chicago and Miami, Ruth went from being a high-school dropout to obtaining her Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in International Management, Human Resources from Florida International University in 2003. Ruth also holds SPHR certification since 2003.
Ruth provides over 20 years of Human Resource leadership experience as well as owning an HR Consulting Company, The HR Doctor, LLC.
Ruth has been a community activist in providing career counseling for youth and unemployed adults since 2004 and is a recognized HR leader, business professor, lecturer, author and entrepreneur.
James attended Florida A&M University on a Navy scholarship where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering.
James was with Texas Instruments for 21 years taking on numerous roles in management including Quality, Yield Enhancement and Process engineering.
James enjoys community service and spends his time giving back through numerous charities and speaking in classrooms off all ages encouraging college and promoting engineering.
Yolanda Robin Thomas
Attorney Robin Thomas is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Illinois College of Law, member of the Illinois Bar and General Bar, Northern District of Illinois, she became an Attorney with the City of Chicago, Department of Consumer Services specializing in consumer law, municipal law and labor relations. She served as lead counsel in prosecutions of consumer law, consumer fraud, deceptive business practices, home repair fraud, municipal law and landlord/tenant cases.
Robin also served as Labor and Employee Relations Manager for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) where she managed the EEO discrimination process, investigated discrimination complaints, developed EEO law training curriculum and served as the Reconsideration Hearing Officer for the DBE and Contract Compliance Programs. Most recently, Attorney Thomas was Managing Attorney and Human Resources Consultant for Thomas Law Group specializing in business law, employment law, dbe/mbe/wbe consulting and human resources consulting.
Robin relocated to Dallas in 2015.
